Opening our journey into discovering the first essentials for Callum on his hockey journey
Given that my son is only 2 and a half these first years are crucial in the development in turning him into a hockey player of professional stature. He has been given a full physical by the doctors and a clean bill of health and also the doctor has used a height prediction that he will be over six feet tall, which is right on track for being an effective hockey player. So with the genetics being taken care of i have now gone into research mode to find the best meal plans and skill development to aquire the best result for our end goal.
Upon using the internet to find the best meal plans for professional hockey player it became clear to me that most of these plans were geared more towards full grown men. So i will have to obviously take the portions down to a appropriate size for my boy. Most of the meal plans that i found were geared very much the same way and are as follows: minimal junk food intake, high protein and carbohydrate intake pre and post game time, low fat intake pre and post game time, lower fibre intake on game day and meal times should be 3 to four hours before game time. So with that basic information i have a schedule and idea of what game day and training times are goin to look like for Callum.
Work out schedule is the next building block that i have researched to find the best practices to build the muscle and agility to be able to be in top physical shape. Once again given his age i will have to dial back some if not most of it until he can reach an age that he can full out do these exercises at the intended level they are being presented. Once again looking over many different work out plans for hockey players they all seemed to have to same general outline which is: a six day work out week with weight lifting the first, third and fifth day and the second, four and sixth day being conditioning and speed training.
Skill development in hockey is very imoportant and i happen to have ties to people that were invovled in professional hockey. My aunt and uncle were billets for the OHL and one of their billets agents was Bobby Orr. I reached out to them but it appears that Bobby doesnt have much interest in developing a 2.5 year old. So after that fell through i researched skill development programs and found a few that i will need to follow up on once i have taught Callum the basics of skating and stick handling.
With the ground work done on the plan to start our journey i feel good with the research and leaarning that i have done and will dive deeper into the individual working and how they transpire in the coming weeks.
